Notorious & Miley Mashup
Oct 26th
People who thought a Weezer Weezy colaboration was odd, you’re in for a treat. River’s has started to loose his mind you could kinda see the Lil’ Wayne thing happening but should he still be alive, I’m sure you’d never see Notorious BIG and Hannah Montana sharing a bottle of Cristal together.
Thankfully we never have to picture that but Andrew Hathaway aka Hathbanger has worked his magic to give us an insight into what it would sound like. Hathbanger has mashed up Biggie’s “Party and Bullshit” with Montana’s “Party in the U.S.A.” and he’s come up with a pretty good track.
This is the first Cyrus song I’ve heard, and although I won’t be rushing to listen to her solo stuff, it does make me wonder what Biggie and Cindy Lauper could have cooked up back in the 80s.

Postal Service DoppelGangers – Owl City
Oct 22nd
Most people have had that feeling when they recognise someone in the street, but don’t want to approach them just in case it’s someone totally different. It’s been a while since you last saw them, they look the same (at least what you think they’d look like after some time) and sound the same but something is just not quite right. Postal Service is that friend, and Owl City is that stranger.
It’s been a while since Postal Service entered the music scene with they’re amazing album Give Up. While most fans craved a second album, all they got was a few rare b-sides released every now and then. Rather than continue waiting, you can now feed your Postal Hunger with a somewhat satisfying replacement. Adam Young is the sole member of Owl City and listening to a few tracks you can see where his influences lie. The electric backing to his tracks screams Dntel (the guy responsible for Postal Service’s beats) and Young’s voice sounds remarkably like Ben Gibbard (also Postal Service, and not forgetting Death Cab!). Unfortunately, that “something that’s not quite right” is the the quality & likability of the tracks. Whilst sounding very similar to Postal Service, it just isn’t! In fact, the more I listen to this track the more I dislike it, but beggars can’t be choosers.
I’ll let you enjoy your fix with Owl City’s – Fireflies & Hello Seattle
Mumford and Sons – Little Lion Man
Oct 11th
If hearing unusual string instruments in songs is your thing Mumford and Sons are the band for you. Mumford and Sons’s are a London based band who wouldn’t be out of place singing in the Bayou. With strong Banjo picking mixed with a solid Double bass background Mumford and Son’s have produced an awesome track in Little Lion Man.
Their album came out today but here’s a taster for you.
Har Mar Superstar – Tall Boy
Oct 6th
H-A-R-M-A-R Superstar is back….
The little Ron Jeremy slightly creepy looking dance machine is back with a gem of a track. Okay, so maybe it’s not a gem but it does grow on you. Slightly…
It’s not his greatest but the video is definitely worth a watch. The video itself is quite annoying but it features a host of celebs including Eva Mendes and George Michael’s Cousin (in Arrested Development), Har Mar in a Daft Punk-esk suit (including a silver skin tight onesy, eurgh) and pillow fights.

Thom Yorke’s New Material
Oct 5th
A week ago I commented on how Thom Yorke was starting a band with Flea from the RHCPs.
Well the band got their first outing a couple days ago at the Echoplex, LA.
The bass guitar is very Flea but the collaboration with Yorke makes this an interesting listen. If anything, it’s worth it just to see Thom Yorke dancing about the stage like a muppet. The official first gig starts tonight but have a listen/watch here:
Dead Man’s Bones – Ryan Gosling
Oct 4th
Most people, especially girls, will know Ryan Gosling as the guy from The Notebook. However in my eyes, Gosling will always be the dude who dated a sex doll. Those who haven’t seen “Lars and the Real Girl”, its definitely worth a watch. It’s not as stupid as it sounds. It’s the story of a socially inept man (Gosling who plays Lars) who one day brings home his new girlfriend to meet the family (freshly delivered from sexdolls.com). Lar’s obviously has psychological problems but rather than seeking help directly the whole town rally’s together and plays along with Lar’s temporary breakdown. It’s a nice heartwarming story which gets a few giggles along the way.
Anyway, apart from acting Gosling like most actors nowadays dabbles in a bit of music. His band Dead Man’s Bones,a collaboration between himself and Zach Shields, released their first album on October 6th and is a pretty good effort for an album that had strict rules (Each part could only have 3 takes, no electric guitars and they used a bunch of instruments used they’d never touched before). The music itself is a slightly more folksy less upbeat Arcade Fire with backing vocals provided by the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir. Have a listen to Pa Pa Power…
Karen O and the Kids – All is Love
Oct 1st
“Where the Wild Things Are” is the big screen adaptation of the childrens favourite book. Although I don’t want to make a habit of reviewing songs linked to movies this one has to be an exception. As a child I was always more into the Hungry Caterpillar and Jenny Yellow Hat books so the movie itself doesnt really interest me. What does is the soundtrack which is a Karen O led treat for the ears.
Karen O, along with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs & host of other artists including Brandford Cox of Deerhunter perform under the name of Karen O and the Kids. They’ve put together a collection of songs which would suit any children’s story perfectly. If you liked the ballad which is Maps, replaced the drums with flowers, surrounded O with children and happy pills “All is Love” would be the outcome.
The folky-pop palm muted guitar, soft piano riffs and clapping can’t help but make you feel like a kid again. Enjoy…
