Dead Man’s Bones – Ryan Gosling

Most people, especially girls, will know Ryan Gosling as the guy from The Notebook. However in my eyes, Gosling will always be the dude who dated a sex doll. Those who haven’t seen “Lars and the Real Girl”, its definitely worth a watch. It’s not as stupid as it sounds. It’s the story of a socially inept man (Gosling who plays Lars) who one day brings home his new girlfriend to meet the family (freshly delivered from sexdolls.com). Lar’s obviously has psychological problems but rather than seeking help directly the whole town rally’s together and plays along with Lar’s temporary breakdown. It’s a nice heartwarming story which gets a few giggles along the way.

Anyway, apart from acting Gosling like most actors nowadays dabbles in a bit of music. His band Dead Man’s Bones,a collaboration between himself and Zach Shields, released their first album on October 6th and is a pretty good effort for an album that had strict rules (Each part could only have 3 takes, no electric guitars and they used a bunch of instruments used they’d never touched before). The music itself is a slightly more folksy less upbeat Arcade Fire with backing vocals provided by the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir. Have a listen to Pa Pa Power…

Karen O and the Kids – All is Love

Where the Wild Things Are OST

“Where the Wild Things Are” is the big screen adaptation of the childrens favourite book. Although I don’t want to make a habit of reviewing songs linked to movies this one has to be an exception. As a child I was always more into the Hungry Caterpillar and Jenny Yellow Hat books so the movie itself doesnt really interest me. What does is the soundtrack which is a Karen O led treat for the ears.

Karen O, along with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs & host of other artists including Brandford Cox of Deerhunter perform under the name of Karen O and the Kids. They’ve put together a collection of songs which would suit any children’s story perfectly. If you liked the ballad which is Maps, replaced the drums with flowers, surrounded O with children and happy pills “All is Love” would be the outcome.

The folky-pop palm muted guitar, soft piano riffs and clapping can’t help but make you feel like a kid again. Enjoy…

New York, I Love You – Trailer

For those who wanted to see the trailer of “New York, I Love You” after my previous post. Here it is:

New York, I Love you & Phoenix – 1901

It’s not often that I sit and listen to a song on repeat but this is one of them. The new Phoenix’s album is awesome but watching trailers has always made me listen to a song more. Whether it’s because you associate it more with the story line I don’t know but this is definitely a song to listen to and a movie to go to.

The cast of “New York, I Love You” looks incredible and you can’t help but want to see a film that includes Nathalie Portman, Shia LeBeouf, Orlando Bloom, Hayden Christensen, Christina Ricci, Rachel Bilson and Ethan Hawke to name a few.

Have a listen to Phoenix’s 1901
