Robyn – Dancing on My Own
Apr 25th
This is probably the popiest thing I’ve posted but I think this tracks going to be a big one when it’s released. Many of you will remember Robyn’s huge self titled 2005 album. 5 years is a lot of time between albums so Robyn is making it up by releasing 3 in close succession. The first of which “Body Talk Part 1″ is due for release on 14th June and it’ll be launched alongside the first single “Dancing on My Own’.
Dancing on My Own starts off with an electronic club anthem bass line but the vocals never kick into its potential. For this reason it’ll probably only be a radio/ipod song but its still worth a listen.

Phoenix – Lisztomania Sung by a Choir
Mar 14th
Phoenix’s Wolfgang Amadeus was probably one of the albums of 2009. With the whole Glee/Choir thing now in fashion, I thought I’d post a cute version I saw on YouTube of their hit single Lisztomania. As a double-ly treat, I’ll let you decide between the Piano and Guitar version sung by the PS22 Choir.
Sit back, enjoy and lets awwwwwwwwwww together……

Pony Pony Run Run – Hey You & Walking on a Line
Mar 14th
The French are known for their fine wine, cheese, love of frogs, Eric Cantona and for past couple of decades Electronica. With offspring such as Daft Punk, Justice, Yelle, Vitalic & Eiffel 65 you wonder how the French can pump out Electronica artists faster than Tiger Woods can find mistresses. Well they’ve done it again.
This time the band is “Pony Pony Run Run”, they’ve been around for a while now and their biggest single “Hey You” first hit the charts late 2009. Having heard them recently at a house party I felt they deserved a shout out.
Two clips for you today, the first is “Hey You” and the second is “Walking on the Line”.
Enjoy!

Matt & Kim Show their Soul
Feb 21st
One of New York’s bands of 2009 have been remixed. Matt & Kim may have been around for longer than a year, but their debut full length album was released in 2009 and tracks have featured on various TV shows and adverts, Barcardi being the most notable.
I’ve been a bit of a latecomer with these guys but their music definitely deserves a mention. Those who have played FIFA10 may know this track already (I’m more of a Pro Evo fan myself), but adding De La Soul to an already huge track “Daylight” can only add to the awesomeness.
Have a listen and tell me what you think.

Glee – Watch it! (just don’t tell anyone)
Dec 26th
After seeing a couple of adverts on TV I decided to watch a few episodes of another new US import called Glee. Glee essentially is a high school show about a bunch of kids and their teacher who start a Glee club. Glee which apparently is the lowest form of social status in american high school consists of social misfits, stutterers, gays and wheelchaired students. Slowly they manage to attract a few football players and cheerleaders but also a host of enemies including the head cheerleading coach & the rest of the school. You’ll notice a few familiar faces in Glee, the cheerleader coach is the crazy lady from role models, and both of the Glee teacher’s love interests are former “Heroes”.
While the story line is filled with love interests, pregnancies and sabotages. The real reason to watch Glee is the music. I’ve always liked the odd choir-esk cover, those who’ve seen the movie slackers might remember the Ace of Base cover. But Glee takes it to another level, with 4/5 songs every episode and tracks you’d all know. To be fair, after hearing their cover of “Don’t stop Believing” I had to watch more and the song list doesn’t disappoint with tracks that include Gold Digger, Ride Wit Me, No Air, Push It & Confessions, to name a few. Those from the UK will also notice a heavy skew to Brit music (especially in the first few eps) with covers of Duffy, Amy Wino & Lily Allen.
One episode led to watching the whole of the first season in a week. I’d best describe it as a cross between Sister Act 2, High School Musical, American Pie (if it was PG-13) & any typical high school TV show. Glee for the past week has been my vice & while it won’t do my newly awarded biggest office metrosexual image any good, I’ll be catching it again when it comes back in April 2010.

Postal Service DoppelGangers – Owl City
Oct 22nd
Most people have had that feeling when they recognise someone in the street, but don’t want to approach them just in case it’s someone totally different. It’s been a while since you last saw them, they look the same (at least what you think they’d look like after some time) and sound the same but something is just not quite right. Postal Service is that friend, and Owl City is that stranger.
It’s been a while since Postal Service entered the music scene with they’re amazing album Give Up. While most fans craved a second album, all they got was a few rare b-sides released every now and then. Rather than continue waiting, you can now feed your Postal Hunger with a somewhat satisfying replacement. Adam Young is the sole member of Owl City and listening to a few tracks you can see where his influences lie. The electric backing to his tracks screams Dntel (the guy responsible for Postal Service’s beats) and Young’s voice sounds remarkably like Ben Gibbard (also Postal Service, and not forgetting Death Cab!). Unfortunately, that “something that’s not quite right” is the the quality & likability of the tracks. Whilst sounding very similar to Postal Service, it just isn’t! In fact, the more I listen to this track the more I dislike it, but beggars can’t be choosers.
I’ll let you enjoy your fix with Owl City’s – Fireflies & Hello Seattle
Dead Man’s Bones – Ryan Gosling
Oct 4th
Most people, especially girls, will know Ryan Gosling as the guy from The Notebook. However in my eyes, Gosling will always be the dude who dated a sex doll. Those who haven’t seen “Lars and the Real Girl”, its definitely worth a watch. It’s not as stupid as it sounds. It’s the story of a socially inept man (Gosling who plays Lars) who one day brings home his new girlfriend to meet the family (freshly delivered from sexdolls.com). Lar’s obviously has psychological problems but rather than seeking help directly the whole town rally’s together and plays along with Lar’s temporary breakdown. It’s a nice heartwarming story which gets a few giggles along the way.
Anyway, apart from acting Gosling like most actors nowadays dabbles in a bit of music. His band Dead Man’s Bones,a collaboration between himself and Zach Shields, released their first album on October 6th and is a pretty good effort for an album that had strict rules (Each part could only have 3 takes, no electric guitars and they used a bunch of instruments used they’d never touched before). The music itself is a slightly more folksy less upbeat Arcade Fire with backing vocals provided by the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir. Have a listen to Pa Pa Power…
Who needs Kanye when you have Wale
Sep 28th
For those who have been in my car, you’re bound to have heard me play this guys songs non stop. Thought I couldnt comment on music without giving him a mention.
Wale’s been on my playlist for a while now. First heard the song “The Kramer” some time ago after the whole Michael Richards aka Kramer “event“. Wale wrote a song in response to it which I can’t get enough of, plus anyone who write’s an entire album/mixed tape based around Seinfeld gets thumbs up in my mind.
Although Wale’s been around a while I’ve posted both “Kramer” and “New Soul” (a newer but still oldish song where he samples that Apple Ad Song).
